Lakewood News Carl's seeking liquor license 5/01/01 Staff Writer Carl's Supermarket in Lake Odessa has begun the paper work to obtain a liquor license. According to current regulations of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, liquor cannot be sold within 500 feet of a church unless the church approves of the application. Central United Meth-odist is within this perimeter and is debating the issue. The Rev. Don Ferris said the church has received a letter from the Resort Special Designation District, giving the church 15 days to respond. Ferris said the church's administrative council has asked for an extension, but has not yet learned if the extension has been granted. Ferris said the congregation wants to continue the positive long-term relations it has had with Carl's, citing the contribution the supermarket has made to community foods drives, sports and school functions. On the other hand, the Methodist Church has maintained a historical stand against alcohol. As yet, no decision has been made by the church.
